The Minister of Music…
Must have a saving relationship with God through Christ and follow Christ in obedience through believer’s baptism.
Must affirm the Baptist Faith & Message 2000: https://bfm.sbc.net/bfm2000/
Must qualify for church leadership using Titus 1:5-9, 1 Timothy 3:1-7, and 1 Peter 5:1-4 as a guide. This does not necessarily mean that the music minister must be pastorally ordained, but his life, family, and ministry should generally reflect these biblical standards. Lakewood Baptist Church understands that the music minister is a teaching position for the congregation, through the music and lyrics of songs, as well as all other elements of worship services (prayer, Scripture reading, etc). Additionally, these passages speak of leading one’s family to honor God and His word. Putting this into practice means that the wife and children of the Minister of Music will also be regular attendees of congregational worship and other church ministries.
Must describe a personal calling from God to ministry through music. Candidate should be able to communicate a testimony of how God has called him to lead in congregational worship and give specific examples regarding his areas of gifting. As part of leading congregational music, what is he called to do, and what may he not be called to do? The candidate should be prepared to address practical matters such as what instrument(s) he plays, ability to lead a choir if necessary, ability to lead a band, ability to chart songs and communicate with other musicians, etc. He should also be able to explain any technical abilities with regard to audio sound system and video system.
Will manage all needs and maintenance of the sanctuary and choir room. This does not mean that he is directly responsible to do these things himself, but that he may do them himself or oversee other individuals, committees, or outside contractors as needed. i.e. Music Minister will lead the A/V Team. Music Minister will notify and work with Property Team of sanctuary repairs which may be necessary.
Expected work schedule
Attend all worship services and discipleship opportunities on Sunday.
Attend all worship services and discipleship opportunities on Wednesday evening.
Plan to spend a minimum of ½ day in the office per week, as coordinated with the pastor, specifically to meet and pray with the pastor regarding worship services and ministry needs.
There may be rare occasions when an additional day of the week is necessary.
Other planned church-wide activities and special events will be considered “all hands on deck” which means that you are expected to be in attendance, in support of the ministry, even if you have no specific assigned duties. i.e. Back to School Bash, Movie Night, etc.
Support all other applicable ministries, i.e. men’s ministry.
Music Minister will report directly to the pastor only, as overseen by the personnel committee.
This is not intended to be all-inclusive. Interested candidates will notice that we have not spoken to a specific worship style or genre. This is purposeful. We are more interested in calling God’s man for this position than meeting any personal preferences.
